The West African Health Organisation has been co-ordinating the ECOWAS Nutrition Forum and the ECOWAS Nutrition Focal Points Network.
The forum is being organized on a bi annual basis, since 2004.
The mid term review gives an opportunity to member states to assess the level of implementation of the previous forum recommendations.
One reason for implementing this meeting is to maintain and strengthen the networks, by sharing countries experiences currently being implemented, that can help to identify best and promising practices to implement or scale up in the sub region.
Moreover, implantation of the recommendations require capacities and resources that countries might need, this meeting is also an opportunity for the focal points to share constrains and opportunities regarding the implantation of the previous forum recommendations.
Focal Points also will be informed on WAHO 2009-2013 operational plan and new partnership for regional initiatives, on nutrition undertaken by WAHO and partners.
A key note address is planned by The Regional Director for Africa of HKI
Others partners will share their contribution in nutrition in ECOWAS Member States
This meeting is scheduled in September 23-25, 2009 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
The choice of Abidjan was decided with the network, and will be an opportunity to mobilize partners to support the next ECOWAS Nutrition Forum, that will held in Cote d’Ivoire, in 2010.
OBJECTIVES OF THE MEETING
- Assess the level of implementation of the recommendations of the last forum at country level
- Share key relevant experiences in nutrition currently being implemented
- Provide information from WAHO to countries regarding activities undertaken in the line of the implementation of the recommendations of the previous forum
- Identify gaps to facilitate WAHO’s support to countries
- Implement the IT session with HKI
